Classics from Adult Cinema's Golden Age: MARY! MARY! (1977)

Handsome professional photographer Ned has a serious problem, namely that he can’t keep his wife Mary satisfied due to the fact that he cums almost instantaneously every time they try and make love.  After a particularly disappointing romp in their pool Ned screams that he would sell his soul to last longer and a mysterious figure calling himself the ‘arranger’ appears and grants Ned his wish.

An extremely sexy and fun supernatural romp starring the unstoppable duo of Constance Money and John Leslie, Mary! Mary! (1977) is a fine example of classic seventies porn and deserves to be much better known.  Mary! Mary! (or as it sometimes known Money Honey) is credited to a certain Bernard Morris, although considering this is the only film that Mr. Morris is credited with I am guessing that it was directed by another filmmaker using a pseudonym.

Whoever directed Mary! Mary! did a good job as the film flows very nicely and is fairly stylish during the many sex scenes.  There is even a nicely handled car chase sequence (featuring Rene Bond as a cop!).  If Mary! Mary! is indeed the work of a man who had never directed before or after then it is a fairly impressive achievement, although it is finally a bit too slight to be compared to the absolute great adult-films of the period.

Mary! Mary! succeeds mostly as a comedy in the first hour but things turn increasingly dark and bizarre in the film’s final section where the cast of characters literally fuck themselves to death in a group orgy.  As the credits role on Mary! Mary! the only character left breathing is Mary, who is carried off by the ‘arranger’ to some unknown destination.  This final shot is actually kind of poignant considering Money’s real life disappearing act several years after Mary! Mary!.

The real treat of Mary! Mary! is getting to watch the legendary Leslie and Money together.  They have some terrific chemistry and play off each other very well.  Their dialogue scenes are handled as well as their sexual encounters, a fact that shows Leslie and Money both had real acting chops and it is a pleasure to watch this beautiful duo in and out of bed.  Leslie and Money would work together again in Constance’s swan-song to the public eye, A Taste of Money, a decade later.

My copy of Mary! Mary! comes from an old VHS version and I honestly can’t find any information on a DVD release.  If anyone knows any different please let me know in the comments section as I would love to get an upgrade of this sexy and strange little film.
